Successful Install of a 48" x 72" Floated Caisson
Offshore Energy Services, Inc. has successfully installed
a 48" x 72" "Floating Caisson" for a major
operator in the Gulf of Mexico. The caisson was installed
from a Jackup Rig in 60 feet of water. The 200' caisson
was towed to the location and positioned below the rig floor.
The caisson was then up-righted and the floatation plug removed.
With the caisson hanging, the rig floor was skidded to a point
approximately 8 feet of an existing well, and the caisson
was then lowered into the mud.
After
adding two additional follower joints, Offshore Energy Services'
S-90 Hydraulic Hammer was then used to drive the caisson to
the designed penetration. Had the operator chosen to
weld the caisson in sections as opposed to the single piece
lift, an additional 48 Hours of rig time would have been required
to complete the operation. Offshore Energy Services
has installed "floating caissons" in water depths
of 40-220'. For additional information, please contact
Offshore Energy Services hammer department.
